The Derby happens on the first Saturday of May, so start looking for the perfect ensemble now!
What is the Kentucky Derby?
It’s a horse race held annually in Louisville, Kentucky as the finale of the two-week-long Kentucky Derby Festival. The competition is a Grade I stakes race for three-year-old Thoroughbreds that run a distance of 1.25 miles. The oldest continuously running race in America, Derby-weekend is something every gentleman should experience in his lifetime.
What is the Kentucky Derby Dress Code?
There is a business casual dress code for the Derby room. If you will be in that area, you should plan to wear a jacket or blazer, a collared shirt, and slacks. Sweaters and vests are also acceptable.
Casual attire is permitted throughout the rest of the event, which means jackets and blazers are optional, but you should still wear a collared shirt. You can also switch out the dress pants for golf shorts, dress shorts, or khakis.
A classic Derby look includes pastel colors and bold prints! Boat hats and straw hats are other popular accessories for this fun event. Top off your look with finishing touches such as colorful suspenders, a bow tie or necktie, and cufflinks.
